Torsion Bars
"Cranking up" the original torsion bars for extra ride-height, and/or load bearing accessories, simply uses up the components spring action. The result is a harsh ride, and 'skiddish' front-end control.
And, if you own a 1997 and later model Hilux, or an IFS Landcruiser, you'll find the front suspension performance very drab, even if the vehicle is totally originally, as the extra-soft torsion bar rate is slow to effectively absorb ruts and holes in the road.

Some 4WD owners 'skimp' on purchasing new torsion bars, because they don't want to spend the money, and some feel that if they fit the larger diameter bar, that the ride-quality may suffer.
It's a big mistake. If you had a solid-axle Nissan Patrol fitted with a bull-bar and winch, straight-up you'd compensate with some heavier-rated coils. Merely adjusting your original bars uses up the spring action so you lose much of your ride, control and handling. You can also increase the stress on the vehicles framework, and cause front shocks to fail prematurely.
